SALT LAKE CITY — A man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing another man Saturday morning in Salt Lake City.
Payton Lee Akridge, 26, faces a first-degree murder charge after police say he shot and killed a 34-year-old man outside of a Wienerschnitzel restaurant at North Temple and 800 West.
SLC Police on Monday announced that the victim was Jonathan Buie, also known as "Miami." He was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to the multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, Akridge was arrested after investigators tracked down the vehicle he was driving later that day.
Video surveillance showed a vehicle pulling up to the curb on 800 West and the victim approaching the vehicle. The driver "immediately" shot the victim multiple times, police said.
The driver fled in the vehicle, but a witness followed and reported the license plate number to police, who later located the vehicle parked at the Ramada Inn at 1659 W. North Temple.
Akridge was located walking several blocks away later that evening around 7 p.m.
A judge ordered that he be held without bail as he is on probation and currently awaiting trial for another felony charge.
