SALT LAKE CITY — Trolley Bar at Trolley Square was vandalized early Thursday morning, and videos captured by security cameras reveal the suspects are quite unusual.
The footage shows two children breaking into the bar around 4 a.m. They broke about 40 glasses, threw the cash register to the ground, shattered salt and pepper shakers and had a few soft drinks.
“We dubbed them the ‘Sprite Bandits,’" said Jeff Krie, the owner of Trolley Bar. “The little one who is about 3 feet tall came through the window and opened the door for the bigger one.”
The boys appear to be between the ages of 6-11 years old. Due to their young age, FOX 13 is blurring their faces in the video above.
Krie, who also owns the Trolley Wing Company restaurant, has turned the video over to Salt Lake City Police. He has no interest in pressing charges against the boys or their families, but he hopes their parents or guardians see this video so they can make some changes.
“My concern is not the glass, it’s not anything here,” Krie said. “It’s that those two kids could be on another news story about disappearing — and their parents should probably know."
He also hopes the boys will learn an important lesson that breaking in and destroying someone else’s property is wrong.
“I think they were a couple of boys being boys. I think they were just having a little bit of fun — that they probably shouldn’t be doing,” Krie said. “Let’s squash the bad habits. It’s not a good way to start doing things — at 8 years old.”
