VIRGIN, Utah — A professional mountain bike rider was airlifted to the hospital Saturday after he crashed during a competition in southern Utah.

A spokesperson for Red Bull said Cam Zink was injured in the Red Bull Rampage, a freeride mountain biking competition held in the town of Virgin.

Zink was taken to the hospital via helicopter. As of Sunday, he was in stable condition.

In an Instagram post, Zink said he broke six ribs, and the fractures were next to his spine.

"Thanks to everyone for sending me all the healing vibes. Truly heartwarming," Brink said in a video from his hospital bed. "I won't be able to get back to everyone, but I'm definitely going to read all of them."

He said the crash was caused by a bad crosswind.

"That was one of the most terrifying moments of my life when I couldn't breathe because of a collapsed lung," he said. "All the pain was coming directly from the spine, but it turns out it was just ribs."
