SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man was hospitalized after being shot in the face Friday morning, possibly by his friend.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. at the Maverik gas station at 3300 South West Temple.

The victim was in the same vehicle as the suspected shooter and was hit at least once, possibly multiple times, as the two of them drove up to the gas pumps here.

“The male had stumbled out of the vehicle, significant injuries to the face and head,” said Danielle Croyle with the South Salt Lake Police Department. "Medical responded and transported the individual to an area hospital.”

The victim is believed to be in his mid to late 20s was last reported to be in serious condition, but based on evidence at the scene, it appears he may have lost a lot of blood.

The suspected shooter sped off.

“We’ve been able to obtain some video footage that helps us identify that there was a Dodge Durango, possibly silver or dark blue, was parked facing northbound in the Maverik stall number two and it left the scene right after this happened,” Croyle said.

It’s a very busy spot early in the morning.

“Yeah, this is my regular route to work,” said Eli Fullmer who lives nearby. “And so it’s a little concerning to hear that a shooting happened right over here.”

Police are asking for the public's help in locating the suspected shooter.

“We have a suspect vehicle to go on,” Croyle said. “Again we’re asking anyone who may have been around this area around 6:30 this morning if they have any information they can call in to our dispatch line, or get on our website and leave an anonymous tip.”

The number to dispatch is 801-412-3600. You can leave a web tip or send an anonymous text here.
