SOUTH OGDEN, Utah — An South Ogden man has been arrested on suspicion of 20 second degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after investigators say they found evidence of child pornography.
According to a probable cause statement, 28-year-old Gregory Thomas Warg admitted to police he has an addiction to child pornography and had considered suicide as his only way out.
On May 12, 2020 a publicly available and popular online cloud service contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to report that on May 11, a suspected user was currently using their service to store digital files depicting child pornography.
The IP addresses geo-located to the state of Utah. The case was then forwarded to the Utah Attorney General's OfficeInternet Crimes Against Children Task Force who then assigned it to a task force agent.
The investigation led officers to an apartment in the area of 1800 East and 5626 South in South Ogden and a search warrant was served on the resident's online cloud service.
Investigators found in excess of 1,000 digital files depicting child sex abuse material on Warg’s account.
Warg waived his Miranda rights and was interviewed privately by law enforcement officers. He admitted to downloading, viewing, trading and distributing child pornography via the internet as recently as the night of October 7.
Several digital items of evidence belonging to Warg were seized and will be submitted for further forensic analysis.
Warg was taken into custody, transported, and booked into the Weber County Jail.
Warg admitted that he has recently considered taking his life because he felt it was his only way out because if he tried to seek help, he'd be reported to law enforcement.
Several children were seen coming and going at the apartment complex and due to his access to children and threats to harm himself, Warg was ordered held without bail.
