SALT LAKE CITY — An online poetry slam hosted by The Black Student Union at Salt Lake Community College was shut down after someone posted offensive content.

Thursday afternoon students were hosting an online poetry slam when others started posting offensive content, according to Joy Tlou, public information officer for Salt Lake Community College.

Tlou said that the content became so disruptive that organizers had to stop the event.

The recording of the poetry slam was handed over to state investigators for further investigation.

Tlou said counseling was made available immediately after the event for students. The community college is also working on the structure of future events and who has access to online events so this won't happen again.
