SALT LAKE CITY — One person is dead and police are looking for at least one suspect in connection with a shooting at a Salt Lake City convenience store late Wednesday night.
It happened shortly before midnight at a Corner Stop convenience store at 200 E Hampton Ave.
"Just prior to midnight, there was an altercation of some kind. There was a shooting. One male was struck and is deceased and at least one male fled the scene in a small sedan," said Lt. Bill Manzanares, SLCPD.
Another person suffered a gunshot wound in the incident but was not killed.
Witnesses told police at least one male suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored Nissan.
The shooting happened in the entryway of the convenience store and may have been captured on surveillance cameras.
On Monday, police identified the victim who was killed as 21-year-old Thompson Kamara.
"It's really disturbing and concerning because of the activity that's been going on in the past month or so. Yeah, just kind of scary," said a woman who lives across the street from the shooting scene.
Wednesday night's shooting occurred in the Central City neighborhood, not far from the Ballpark neighborhood, which has seen a sharp spike in violent crimes and property crimes this year.
Anyone with information that may help SLCPD investigators solve the homicide is urged to call 801-799-3000.
