SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City man has been arrested on suspicion of first degree felony murder, described as “knowing and intentional” in a probable cause statement.
24-year-old Ezekiel Sedale Mayblen is being held in the Salt Lake County jail without bail.
On Monday night, police were called to a reported shootout.
Officers arrived and found Mayblen on scene. He had called 911 and reported a shootout and stated there was an argument between two people and that his gun was used.
After being read his Miranda rights, Mayblen stated that the deceased male was his roommate and had taken Mayblen’s gun and shot himself.
Mayblen admitted to being present when the shooting occurred, but said he then removed the magazine from the firearm and threw the firearm and magazine into different adjacent yards and fled the scene.
Mayblen later returned to the scene.
Investigators found Mayblen’s story of events to be inconsistent with witness accounts, dispatch recordings, and physical evidence located on scene. There was blood located on Mayblen’s shoes. The blood pattern on the shoes was not consistent with the story provided by Mayblen, the statement said.
