A local police officer is expected to be okay after reportedly being rescued by citizen Saturday morning.

Just before 4:00 a.m., a commercial vehicle struck a police cruiser in the area of 600 South and 200 West in downtown Salt Lake, causing the cruiser to start on fire.

According to police, an employee at a local Motel 6 saw the accident, and helped get the officer out of the burning vehicle.

That officer was transported a local hospital with minor injuries, and is expected to be released later today.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured, and remained on scene. Authorities say they did not detect any signs of impairment.
