Salt Lake City has top job market in US, study claims

SALT LAKE CITY — It may not always feel like it, but a new study shows that Salt Lake City has the No. 1 job market in the country, and is ranked 4th in the US among best places to find work.

At one point after the start of the pandemic, the overall unemployment rate in the US nearly hit 15%, but it has slowly recovered and the national rate now stands at 6.7%.

In the WalletHub survey, Salt Lake City is noted for also having the second-most job opportunities in the country behind only Columbia, SC.

The survey compared 182 cities in two key areas, Job Market and Socio-economics. Inside those areas, the study used 32 relevant metrics to determine the overall score of each city.

In the Job Market category, in which SLC was No. 1, the metrics include employment growth, average starting salary, employment outlook and job security.

Salt Lake City fared worse in the Socio-economics category, finishing No. 41 overall. The category takes into account metrics such as median annual income, work and time commute, housing affordability and transportation costs.
