SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police are looking for a suspect in an overnight shooting at the Little America Hotel.

Police say a man was in a hotel room when the suspect knocked on the door.

He was allowed in and there was an argument followed by a gunshot.

The victim suffered a superficial wound to his abdomen and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Investigators are combing through evidence.

"Fortunately, this hotel does have several cameras,” said SLCPD Lt. Carlos Valencia. “After the shooting took place, they saw their feed and they saw an individual about 5 feet 6 inches, a male Hispanic, wearing a red jumpsuit get into the passenger side of a black sedan and the car left the scene.”

Police say the suspect and victim know each other and there is no threat to the general public.

They later identified the suspect as 40-year-old Justin Lee Kughler and added 32-year-old Britney Scarborough as a person of interest possibly connected to the shooting. Police said Kughler may be riding a blue bullet-bike-style motorcyle and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who may know their whereabouts is asked to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 20-159058.
