DRAPER, Utah — Police say a Draper man was arrested after he allegedly held members of his family hostage for several hours while he was in possession of a handgun.

Draper Police responded to the call about an armed domestic violence incident on Draper Heights Way around 11:00 a.m. on Monday.

William Barnes, 32, is accused of holding his family against their will with a revolver, according to a family member. Officers spoke with a victim over the phone who said William was carrying a gun in his waistband and threatened to shoot her.

When Barnes went outside, the victim locked him out of the house where officers were able to detain him without incident.

The victim told officers that Barnes threatened to shoot her if she left the home and that he had been holding her and their two young children for several hours.

Detectives executed search warrants on the home and Barnes' car where they found a handgun, ammunition and other weapons. He was booked into Salt Lake County jail and faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
