COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — A group in Cottonwood Heights has put together a petition calling for City Councilwoman Tali Bruce to resign.
This comes nearly a month after a celebration of life turned into a violent protest in Cottonwood Heights, where Bruce claims she was punched in the throat by police officers.
Tiffany Casteler watched the celebration of life turn violent from her yard on August 2nd.
“Because I wasn’t joining in, I got called horrible things,” said Casteler. “It was just a bad feeling in our neighborhood.”
Protesters moved from the Mill Hollow Park down the street to Steven Wall’s neighborhood.
“They had absolutely no business taking that kind of a group into a residential area,” said Wall.
When Wall walked outside his front door, he said he observed a woman contributing to the chaos.
"I didn’t now who she was,” said Wall. "I didn’t know she was my councilwoman.”
Later, Wall said he learned it was Cottonwood Heights City Councilwoman Tali Bruce.
Bruce was in the faces of police officers, taking pictures and videos of what was happening, Wall said.
When protesters were asked to stay to the sidewalk, Wall said they would not comply with police.
Bruce claims she was punched by an officer in the throat.
“She’s part of the city government and they were given an order,” said Wall. “She was doing nothing to assist in getting these people to comply with that.”
Wall and others have created a petition calling for Bruce’s resignation.
