SALT LAKE CITY — Patients who use medical cannabis in Utah can now pay electronically at some pharmacies.
Most credit card companies and financial institutions don't facilitate business with cannabis dispensaries and pharmacies because the drug remains illegal at the federal level. That means most transactions at cannabis-oriented businesses have been handled with cash payments.
But some Utah cannabis pharmacies are now accepting payments via the "Hypur" app, which is similar to Venmo.
Hypur hopes to secure agreements with all 14 of Utah's cannabis pharmacies.
