Police are seeking the public's help after an overnight shooting in West Valley hospitalized one person.
According to Lieutenant Bill Merritt with West Valley City Police, approximately two dozen shots fired near Hawkeye Drive around 1:35 AM were heard by authorities responding to an accident on 3500 South and Redwood Road. Multiple calls were placed to 9-1-1 also reporting the shots.
Once police arrived in the area of Hawkeye Drive, they found spent shell casings spanning about a block, and multiple vehicles were seen fleeing the area.
One vehicle that was stopped had the shooting victim inside. The 17-year-old male was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but was stabilized, and is expected to recover.
Authorities narrowed the search further, leading them to a home in a cul-de-sac off Hawkeye Drive where a large party was happening.
It is believed that individuals with gang affiliations were turned away from the party, and as they were leaving, they encountered the victim, and the shooting took place.
Officers believe there is only one shooter, a 17-year-old male.
