SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles is sending out one final postcard to remind people to register their vehicles and sign up for email notifications.
The DMV decided to stop sending traditional postcard reminders in September because of budget cuts. Officials took it as an opportunity to build up online services.

However, ever since postcards were discontinued, vehicle registration renewals have decreased. Officials think the lack of postcards had a hand in the decreases and also the fact that less people are commuting and paying attention to their cars.
Officials are concerned that people's cars could be impounded just because they forgot to renew their vehicle registration.
“Whatever the reason a registration has not been completed we just don’t want people getting caught and having to pay fines,” says DMV Director Monte Roberts.
