LOGAN, Utah — A 2-year-old girl died after officers pulled her from a canal near Ellis Elementary School in Logan Friday evening.

At 6:34 p.m., Logan officials received a report of a missing 2-year-old from a home in Logan and began a search of the immediate area, including a canal that runs near the school.

Officers located the girl in the canal and found her to be unresponsive and began life-saving efforts before being transported to the hospital.

The girl was ultimately pronounced dead.

A verified GoFundMe campaign identified the 2-year-old victim as Darla Jean Moore.

"She won everyone's heart within seconds of them meeting her," the GoFundMe read. "She loved her little sister more than anything in the world and everyone she came in contact with, even trying to give strangers a hug and a kiss. She will be missed. We love you, Darla."

Police said Sunday that they do not suspect any foul play, but they take any "unattended death" seriously and are still investigating.
