SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — Multiple avalanches have buried parts of SR-210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon early Friday morning, forcing Snowbird Ski Resort and Alta Ski Area to remain closed for all of Friday.

UDOT announced the closure Friday afternoon citing heavy avalanche debris in the canyon. No estimated time was given on the reopening of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

"Based on current conditions in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Alta and @Snowbird are not planning to open today," a tweet from Alta said. "This will be reevaluated at noon as @UDOTcottonwoods and resort personnel perform avalanche control work."

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, one avalanche buried the entrance to Snowbird in eight to nine feet of snow.
