MORGAN, Utah — Six of Morgan County's seven snowplows were damaged Monday night in a fire.
Around 5:20 p.m., a 911 caller reported smoke coming from inside a building at 390 E. 400 North — the Morgan Public Works garage where the county's plows are stored. The Mountain Green Fire Protection District said one of the trucks caught fire, which then spread to the others.
Firefighters responded and had to cut through several metal garage doors to let heat and smoke out and to be able to attack the fire.
The 10 engines and 35 firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour. One firefighter sustained a minor injury.
The Utah Department of Transportation and Morgan City have offered to loan snowplows to the county.
Morgan County Fire Chief Boyd Carrigan said they believe the fire is just a “tragic accident," but a formal investigation will be conducted Tuesday.
