WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — The Metro Gang Unit is investigating a drive-by shooting and chase in West Valley City that occurred late Wednesday night.
According to a West Valley City Police Department spokesman, police received numerous reports of a shooting near 1800 W 3150 S around 10:00.
One of the callers gave police the license plate number of a white Chevrolet Suburban that was spotted leaving the area.
"That vehicle came back as a stolen vehicle on the computer. A detective in the area located the vehicle [and] officers began to conduct mobile surveillance until we could get enough assistance in the area to safely take the suspect into custody," said Lt. Todd Grey, WVCPD.
Officers used tire spikes on the Suburban, and the driver led police on a brief pursuit, but lost control of the vehicle after traveling a few blocks.
"He did flee from the vehicle. He attempted to get into another but was unsuccessful and he was taken into custody by officers in the backyard of a home," Grey said.
Police have not found evidence that anyone was shot. Officers took another person into custody for questioning. That person has been released and police are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the shooting.
The person who remains in custody is a 15-year-old.
