WEST JORDAN, Utah — West Jordan Police say a store clerk was run over Monday night by a man who stole products.

As of Tuesday night, police were still searching for the suspect and the victim was still in critical condition.

The clerk confronted the man after he walked into Smokey's Discount Cigarettes at 1597 W. 9000 South, grabbed something, then left without paying, police say.

After the two men got in a brief fight in the parking lot, police say the suspect got into a car and intentionally ran the clerk over. The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

"This parking lot where this occurred is not super well-lit," said Sgt. JC Holt with West Jordan Police. "It was dark when this happened and there aren't a lot of businesses close by, and so it happened in an area that really was a bit of a blind spot for us in terms of surveillance."

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with dark, shaggy hair. He was wearing a tie-dye shirt, a black jacket, a black hat, a black mask and white pants. He was driving a red passenger car, pictured below in photos released Tuesday. Police believe it is a Buick Verano, but they do not have a license plate number.
