SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A motorcycle rider died Saturday after crashing into a freeway median.
Around 3:30 p.m., a 43-year-old man was riding a motorcycle on Interstate 80 in Summit County about two miles north of Wanship when he crashed into the median. Utah Highway Patrol said he was traveling above the speed limit and crashed after failing to negotiate a curve in the road.
He died at the scene. Officials say he was not wearing a helmet.
I-80 was closed temporarily closed as a medical helicopter was dispatched.
The deceased rider's name has not been released pending notification of his family.
UHP reminds motorcycle riders to wear a helmet and other safety equipment, as well as carry the proper motorcycle safety endorsements. They also remind drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to watch out for motorcycles.
