SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is holding it's Christmas celebrations virtually this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Usually, hundreds of musical performances would be scheduled throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas, drawing in hundreds of people from around the country.
The annual "Savior of the World" concert will not be held, instead, organizers are inviting all people, regardless of their personal faith or religion, to submit a video to be used in the virtual celebration.
Submissions may include fun and lighthearted holiday songs as well as religious Christmas songs from different cultures and traditions.
Organizers are asking that submissions be in English, as they will replace the traditional concerts at Temple Square.
Both solo and group performances will be accepted, with preference to groups. Instrumental performances are also welcome. Each group can submit up to two videos.
The videos will be edited together and broadcasted on the church website and they will become part of the annual "Light the World" Christmas campaign.
Video submissions can be emailed to ChristmasatTempleSquare@ChurchofJesusChrist.org by November 15, 2020.
A schedule, as well as broadcast times and locations will be available as the season approaches.
