LAYTON, Utah — Layton Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of a man in Layton Thursday night.

Around 11:45 p.m., officers were called to a location near Aspen Way and Fairfield Road where they found an 18-year-old man with two gunshot wounds to his torso.

Police later identified the victim as Kannon Beesley.

Paramedics administered life-saving measures and took him to Davis Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Layton Police announced Friday night that they had arrested 29-year-old Michael Hines for murder and aggravated robbery, along with 19-year-old Jeremiah Wright for obstruction of justice. Police say Wright was present at the shooting and intentionally misled investigators.

Police said that based on evidence found at the scene, the shooting happened during a physical altercation because of a "dispute over drug ownership." Others were in the home where the shooting occurred but none were injured.

Layton Police still ask anyone with further information to call them at 801-497-8300 and to reference case number 20-03556.
