Bats are found all over Utah. Some roost in barns, buildings or trees, but the Townsend’s Big Eared Bats prefer caves.
A cave just east of Logan has been closed to the public for nearly 20 years to help provide shelter for the bats.
The cave’s entrance is covered with bars that allow bats t fly through while keeping would-be explorers out.
Once each winter, biologists enter the cave to check on the size and health of the bat population.
