LEHI, Utah — Two people were shot Monday after a suspect opened fire on another vehicle during a road rage incident on I-15 in Lehi.
Around 7:30 a.m., the male driver of a black pick-up traveling southbound on I-15 fired into a white pick-up truck with five males inside. Two people inside the white pick-up truck were hit by gunfire.
"We're not sure exactly what went down to cause the road rage event. But it resulted in the driver, the single-occupant male driver of the black pickup, firing shots at the white pickup that had five adult males," said Lt. Nick Street, UHP. "Two individuals in the white truck were hit by the gunfire fired from the individual in the black pickup."
Officials do not believe passengers in the white pick-up truck returned gunfire.
The Utah Highway Patrol says the victims were driven to the hospital following the incident. One victim underwent surgery in critical condition, but is expected to recover. The other gunshot wound victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the black pick-up truck is now in custody and remained on the scene following the incident.
Traffic on southbound I-15 in the Lehi area came to a standstill after UHP closed off the highway to investigate what had occurred.
