The fourth temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan is now under construction, following a small groundbreaking ceremony that was held on Saturday.
The temple was announced in April of 2019 by church President Russell M. Nelson.
Other temples in the country include Fukuoka Japan Temple, Sapporo Japan Temple, and the Tokyo Japan Temple.
Japan is home to more than 130,000 Latter-day Saints, and the church has been active in the country since 1901.
Asia North Area president Elder Takashi Wada presided over the groundbreaking on Saturday.
231 temples are in various stages of operation or construction globally, and by the end of 2020, ground will have been broken on 21 temples.
