SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — Three Granite School District schools sheltered in place Tuesday afternoon as police searched for a suspect in South Salt Lake and served a warrant in Magna.

The shelter-in-place at Copper Hills Elementary and Matheson Jr. High in Magna was lifted around 1:20 p.m.

The shelter-in-place protocol at Granite Park Jr. High, at 3031 S 200 E in South Salt Lake, was lifted around 2 p.m.

A Unified Police representative confirmed the two Magna schools went on shelter-in-place in connection with the incident in South Salt Lake.

During the shelter in place protocol, the school's exterior doors are locked, the front door is guarded by a police officer and school activities proceed as normal inside the building. The protocol also prevents visitors from entering the building.

According to the Granite School District, there was increased police presence at the Granite Education Center and Woodrow Wilson Elementary, but no shelter in place control was initiated at either facility.
