SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox has ordered flags in Utah to be flown at half-mast this week in honor of the 500,000 Americans lost to COVID-19.

This comes in coordination with a proclamation from President Joe Biden to lower the flags at all federal public buildings and grounds to commemorate the "solemn occasion."

Both the American and state flags will be lowered at all state facilities from Monday night through Friday. Cox also encouraged all Utahns and private businesses to do the same.

“This week we join all Americans in mourning those we’ve lost to COVID-19, including the 1,853 Utahns who have died,” Cox said. “May God bless their loved ones and all of us with comfort and healing at this difficult time.”
