SALT LAKE CITY — A gas leak was found near the Hotel RL in Salt Lake City Tuesday morning.
Crews from Dominion Energy and the Salt Lake City Fire Department Hazmat team responded after the call was placed at 161 West 600 South.
Dominion Energy had registered high levels of natural gas underground and was able to isolate the source to an old service line outside the hotel. The line was shut off so crews could repair the leak.
According to the fire department, UTA busses were requested in case guests needed to be evacuated from the hotel.
Capt. Anthony Burton of the SLCFD said that while gas leaks are common, having them reported by Dominion Energy was a rare occurrance.
"They called us in, they said, 'Hey, we have a problem and it's going to take us a while to figure out where it's coming from,' and then we just cooperated and got it handled," said Burton.
