Unified Police identified the deceased skiers on Sunday:
- 29-year-old Sarah Moughamian, Sandy
- 26-year-old Louis Holian, Salt Lake City
- 26-year-old Stephanie Hopkins, Salt Lake City
- 23-year-old Thomas Steinbrecher, Salt Lake City
“If all I can say is if you knew Steph, you knew what life was like,” said LauraAnn Drury, a friend of Hopkins. “She taught me how to appreciate the smallest details that nature had to offer, that people had to offer.”
The names of the four backcountry skiers ⛷ who passed away in an avalanche this weekend are displayed over I-215.

Hopkins was a registered nurse in the University of Utah Hospital’s neurocritical care unit. Her coworkers told FOX 13 that she was a true "health care hero."
“I think 'hero' is probably an understatement. She was always willing to be the first to go into even dangerous situations, especially with COVID happening this past year,” said Brandon Sherrod, who worked alongside Hopkins at U of U Health. “She never hesitated to go out of her way to help patients and suit up to take care of COVID patients — or any patient for that matter. She was just always willing to do what needed to be done.”
Sarah, I love you my little sister and now I’ll miss you forever, hopefully we can live life as big as you lived yours. Rest In Peace.
