BOUNTIFUL, Utah — A former teacher at a middle school in Sandy is being charged with stalking in Bountiful.
Richard Paul Mellor, age 39 of Woods Cross, was charged in late November with a class-A misdemeanor stalking charge. The incident occurred on Sept. 26, according to court documents filed by the Bountiful City prosecutor's office.
Mellor was a social studies teacher at Eastmont Middle School in Sandy, but he resigned on Nov. 12, a Canyons School District spokesperson told FOX 13.
According to court records, a pre-trial protective order was signed Tuesday. It prohibits Mellor from "attempting, committing or threatening to commit domestic violence or abuse against the protected person" or anyone in their family or household. It also prohibits all communication between Mellor and the protected person and requires that he stay away from their home, school or workplace.
Court documents did not give exact details on what Mellor is accused of other than the legal definition of stalking.
The age of the individual he's accused of stalking was not specified. It was also not clear whether he had been arrested.
