SALT LAKE CITY — A man was killed early Friday after being struck by two vehicles near a Salt Lake City intersection.

The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. in the area of 800 South and 900 West.

Upon arriving at the scene, Salt Lake City police officers located the man and attempted to provide life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

“We do have two vehicles that unfortunately struck the pedestrian this morning, and ultimately that led to the pedestrian’s death,” Detective Michael Ruff said.

The manager of a 7-Eleven across the street from where the accident occurred said she had known the victim for the past nine years. She said he was homeless, but always had a smile on his face.

“He was just a quiet guy," said Selaima Ceron. "He would come sing to me in the morning. I am going to miss him."

Ceron says she was inside the store when she heard the crash and instantly knew what had happened.

“My heart just dropped. I didn’t know what to think,” she said.

Both drivers remained on the scene to assist police with their investigation and no arrests have been made.

Ceron believes the intersection where the accident occurred is dangerous.

"I’ve worked for 7-Eleven for so many years. I watched things, and it’s just this area. I just wish people would watch out for them, even though they have no right to cross the red light sometimes, but we still need to watch out for them," she said.

After the accident, 800 South was closed from 900 West to Jeremy Street to allow the Crash Analysis Reconstruction team to investigate, but all roads have since been reopened.
