UTAH COUNTY, Utah — A 19-year-old male was killed following an explosion at a home in Elk Ridge home.

Officers received a call at 4:15 p.m. of an explosion occurring in the garage of house with several people inside. The teenage male, identified as Eric Ammon Cheney, was later found dead, while the rest of the building's occupants were uninjured.

It's unknown if the explosion has affected the structural integrity of the building at this time and the cause of the explosion, believed to be accidental, is still under investigation.

According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff's Office, several surrounding roads were closed because of the explosion potentially scattering evidence over a wide area.

"There was some secondary damage to some of the homes surrounding the home that had the explosion and some damage that was caused there," said Sgt. Cannon. "I don't think that they suspect that there's any structural instability that's going to keep those people from being able to go back to their homes."
