Evacuations ordered after Flatt Fire threatens homes in Washington Co.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah — Evacuations in Washington County have been ordered Friday as a new fire threatens homes in Enterprise. One structure has already been lost in the fire which has also spread into Iron County.

As of the latest update, the Flatt Fire was burning over 10,000 acres about 40 miles west of Cedar City. Photos shared on social media show a view from Main Street and Center Street with the fire just over a hill nearby.

Officials said late Friday night that fire activity was beginning to slow.

They have also determined that it was caused by lightning.

Officials said gusty winds pushed the fire over the containment line, causing the evacuations to be ordered.

Current evacuation orders are in place from 2000 South Old Modena Road east to 2400 West and south to Enterprise, according to the Iron County Sheriff's Office.

Air resources have been called in to protect the town of Enterprise.

The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at Enterprise High School, located at 565 S. 200 East Street in Enterprise.
