BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — A Salt Lake County search and rescue team helped a dehydrated hiker get down a trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, the team was notified of a hiker on the Lake Blanche trail who was dehydrated and suffering from cramps.
He was slowly and painfully making his way back down the trail. Several other hikers tried to help him and ended up heading down and calling for help when they got cell service.
United Fire and SAR members went up and gave him fluids. The patient finished walking out with some assistance. As the team was nearing the trailhead a second callout came and many of the team members headed up the canyon for the next callout while a few stayed with the patient.
Everyone was safely off the mountain around 4 p.m.
