SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox has ordered the lowering of the U.S. and Utah flags at the state capitol building to honor the U.S. Capitol police officer whodied following Wednesday's insurrection.
The flags will be lowered Monday.
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died the day after engaging with protesters who had breached the building. Reports say Sicknick was hit over the head with a fire extinguisher during the melee.
“Brian D. Sicknick gave his life trying to protect one of this nation’s most revered democratic institutions." tweeted Cox on Sunday. "We honor his life of dedicated public service as part of U.S. Capitol Police and as a staff sergeant for the New Jersey National Guard.”
