CENTERVILLE, Utah — Crossing guards in Centerville now have body-worn cameras.
The Centerville Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that they aim to use the technology to identify drivers who don't stop for crossing guards in crosswalks — endangering their lives and those of pedestrians, often children walking to or from school.
"When a Crossing Guard is in the crosswalk, no matter what direction you are traveling YOU MUST STOP," the department wrote.
Funds for the bodycams came from a private donation. The department says each guard has one.
"This will be a great resource to help identify those that do not obey the law. WE LOVE OUR CROSSING GUARDS!!" Centerville Police wrote.
