SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Department of Workforce Services is saying call wait times are high because of all the people applying for unemployment insurance.

“So this weeks unemployment claim volume is 2400% higher than the average claim volume,” Kevin Burt with the Department of Workforce Services said. “We are seeing some higher than usual than usual call wait times.”

Those we spoke to like Jon Andrus were experiencing that problem.

“I started to try and call and follow up with them yesterday and yesterday you get in the queue but it was like forever long you can’t even get in the queue.” Andrus says “now they are just saying they can’t except any phone calls and I’ve tried like three times throughout today.”

Workforce Services is asking those to not call unless they need to and use their online services instead.

As for the application process, FOX 13 spoke with Heather Beth who agreed that the online application was very simple.

“You just go online and answer the questions… Their questions are really easy simple yes and no questions… How have you been affected… Where do you work.” She told us.
