SALT LAKE CITY — Sunday brought the first true snowstorm of the season to the valley. Officials warned people of potentially dangerous road conditions, snowplows worked to clear things up and home improvement stores braced for the wave of winter shoppers.

“It snows and its like 'Oh my God, let’s get our stuff',” Patrice Estes, Sutherlands Head Cashier, said.
This weekend, the store sold hundreds of shovels and ice scrapers as well as thousands of pounds of ice melt.
“Ice melt and our jackets have been a pretty big seller this year and the snow shovels,” she said.
Tristin Holmquest was one of many people spending their snowy Sunday afternoon at Sutherlands.
“We bought insulation for all of our pipes and stuff like that since we’re staying in an RV up here,” he said.
This is Holmquest’s first Utah winter, and he admitted he’s a little nervous.
“It’s something different that’s for sure. I am not used to the cold,” he said.
With ice melt, some warm clothes and more in the cart, Holmquest is hopeful he can stay warm this winter.
