SALT LAKE CITY — Kennady Kasteler is a cheerleader at Brighton High School, but a few weeks ago she was a lifesaver.

Kennady was at a Jr. Jazz basketball game when a player collapsed on the floor.

She is also a trained lifeguard and jumped into action.

Kennady determined he was not breathing and had no pulse and performed CPR on the student until emergency responders could get there.

That student was Brighton High senior Mike Le Fear.

Attorney General Sean Reyes heard of Kennady's heroics and honored her at Tuesday night's Bengals basketball game.

"Kennady represents youth who are willing to go out of their comfort zone to help lift and protect other youth and right now we need it more than ever," Reyes said.

Kennady is just glad her training kicked in.

"You never know what will happen," she said. "It's good to be on the ball and know what you're doing."

A nurse also helped care for Le Fear that night, and Reyes is trying to track her down and recognize her efforts as well.
