At the Movies: 'The Con' and its connection to Utah

The Con may be the most important work you watch this year. It reminds our movie critic Steve Oldfield of the Oscar-winning "Inside Job" that looked at what caused the financial crisis of 2008 and why so many people lost their homes.

Producer Patrick Lovell ended up losing his home here in Utah. He told our movie critic Steve Oldfield his story.

"I lived it, Steve, it was a really terrible chapter in my life, and I just thought, 'God, this isn't making sense to me. So I got lucky and I basically put together a project that took me on a nine-year journey to get the truth," Lovell said.

Instead of an hour-and-a-half like most documentaries, The Con's a 5-part docuseries that lays it all out in a way that's easy to understand -

Showing how some greedy lenders can make home payments affordable at first but then suddenly, they balloon to huge amounts and when you can't afford to pay, they take your home away.
