KEARNS, Utah -- — Officers with the Unified Police Department have made an arrest in connection with a murder investigation in Kearns.

The homicide took place on March 11, and when officers arrived, they found a man who was unresponsive and had some obvious bruising on his body.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife told police her husband got into a fight at work, but after an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled the cause of death was homicide.

After doing more follow up investigating, including talking with friends and relatives, police determined the woman, Veronica Vizcarra's story just didn't add up.

"After some further investigation, talking with some people that had some information from prior, it appeared that the wife was the one that inflicted the injuries on him," said Sgt. Melody Gray with UPD. "And she was arrested last night for domestic violence-related homicide."

Vizcarra is being held without bail because she is considered a flight risk because she has family in Mexico and a current passport.

Earlier this year UPD officers were called to the same home for an alcohol-fueled domestic violence incident.

According to the police report, in that situation Vizcarra drove away from the scene, allegedly intoxicated and with her infant child in her lap.
