An Amtrak train headed from Chicago, Illinois to Emeryville, California was delayed in Utah County after being hit by a large boulder Saturday night.
According to a statement from Amtrak, the lead locomotive of the train was struck and damaged by the boulder which was impeding the tracks. It happened about 35 miles east of Provo just before 10 p.m.
On Sunday, crews attempted to attach a freight engine to the damaged train to help it continue on its way, but it was unsuccessful. The 39 passengers on board will be transferred to another train and taken to Helper Station, where alternate bus transportation will be available.
