RIVERTON, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation is planning to close a busy portion of 12600 South later this month for a road construction project expected to last several months.

The road will be closed in both directions at Bangerter Highway as early as Jan. 22, UDOT announced in a Facebook post.

The closure will be in place through August, according to UDOT's website. Crews will be constructing a "new freeway-style interchange."

Bangerter will remain open. It will be reduced to two lanes in the area, but with no stoplight at the 12600 South intersection — a change that UDOT says will be permanent.

Drivers will still be able to turn right from 12600 onto Bangerter and vice versa.
