10-year-old dies from gunshot wound in Kamas Valley

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A 10-year-old boy died at a home in the Kamas Valley Wednesday after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at a home near SR-248 and it appears to have been accidental.

Deputies responded to the home shortly before 6 p.m. and attempted life-saving measures, but the boy succumbed to his injury.

Summit County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the incident. Details on how the child gained access to the gun are unknown.

The boy's name was not released.

“Hug your loved ones often, keep them near and tell them you love them,” Summit County sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
