You’ve seen the ads. The race for Utah’s 4th congressional district is one of the most contentious races in the country.

Democrat Ben McAdams is trying to win a second term, and he’s being challenged by Republican Burgess Owens.

The day before the elections, both candidates told FOX 13 why they think they should win.

“Getting the house back will allow this particular district to be the linchpin of our nation which direction they're going to go in,” Owens said.

“I’m independent and I try to do what's right for Utah even if it's not always popular,” McAdams said. “I work across party lines to get things done.”

A poll by the Deseret News and the Hinckley Institute of Politics has McAdams and Owens neck and neck.

More than one million Utah votes had already been processed by Monday.
