SALT LAKE CITY — Republican candidate Blake Moore defeated Democrat Darren Parry to claim the house seat up for grabs in Utah's 1st Congressional District.

Moore held a 35 point lead over Parry as of 9 p.m.
In a statement on Twitter, Moore thanked voters and said in part, "Words cannot describe how humbled I am to be elected to Congress to represent northern Utah. My campaign has been about expecting more, and I will be a representative who champions aspirational, inclusive, and pro-growth policies."

Moore replaces longtime Congressman Rob Bishop, who spent 17 years in the House.
