SALT LAKE CITY — Three candidates vying for a seat in U.S. Congress to represent part of Utah debated Monday evening.
Rep. Chris Stewart, a Republican and the currently serving congressman in Utah's 2nd Congressional District, faced challengers Kael Weston (Democrat) and J. Robert Latham (Libertarian), hosted by the Utah Debate Commission.

The debate was one of several leading up to the 2020 election live-streamed on FOX 13's website, Facebook page, mobile app and streaming apps (search "KSTU" on Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV app stores). The next will take place Wednesday night between the candidates for Utah Attorney General: Republican incumbent Sean Reyes and Democratic challenger Greg Skordas.

Stewart is in his fourth term and has represented the 2nd district since 2013. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran, a small-business owner and an author, according to Ballotpedia.
Weston is an author and former diplomat for the U.S. State Department, according to his campaign website.
Latham is an attorney, and he also ran for lieutenant governor in 2012 alongside Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Ken Larsen, according to votesmart.org.
In the 2018 election, Stewart won with 56.1 percent of the vote against challengers Shireen Ghorbani (Dem.) and Jeffrey Whipple (Lib.).
The district encompasses Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, Millard, Piute, Sevier, Tooele, Washington and Wayne counties. It also includes portions of Davis, Juab, Salt Lake and Sanpete counties.
