White House advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci says it's likely wearing two masks during the pandemic offers more protection than just wearing one.
Fauci made his comments Monday on the Today show.
During an interview, Fauci said it "makes common sense" that having additional layer of protection would be more effective.
Despite Fauci's claims, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have yet to recommend double-masking, according to NBC.
Many politicians and guests who attended the inauguration of President Joe Biden were seen wearing two masks, including poet Amanda Gorman and Pete Buttigieg, who is the Transportation Secretary nominee.
According to the report, studies have shown that multilayer cloth masks block up to 70 percent of fine droplets that help spread COVID-19.
